Creating Light in the Darkness
The Foundation
From the age of five, it has been my passion to help others. My mother worked tirelessly, cleaning houses and cooking for other people so that we could attend school. She could not afford the luxury of buying Christmas presents but her dedication taught us invaluable life lessons at a very young age.
I recall chasing after a Christmas truck as a child. When I finally caught up, a man told me that there were no presents left. Devastated, I ran home in tears and told my mother that when I grew up, I wanted to give Christmas presents to children so no one would feel the way I did at that moment.
After moving to the United States in 2015, I secured a job and began buying a toy every week from stores like Ross or Marshalls. By October, I had collected over 120 toys. I shipped them to Venezuela and came back that Christmas to give away the gifts to children in my hometown. This marked the birth of my foundation, "Creating Light in the Darkness." Every year thereafter, I continued this tradition until the pandemic happened.
The pandemic brought new challenges. Children were eager to return to school but lacked essential supplies; families were forced to choose between buying food or school necessities. To address this, I used my social media and my personal resources to assemble over 400 kits containing items like notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, crayons, rulers, and backpacks. Additionally, I started sports programs—including basketball, baseball, and soccer—by providing equipment for after-school activities. This effort aimed to keep children off the streets and promote structure and discipline through sports.
I firmly believe that education is the most valuable gift one can receive. Children are the future of our world, and among those we help could be the next Albert Einstein. I strive to be a hope for children who feel they have no future because I once stood in their shoes.
